3 ways to add swag to every outfit!
Ahhhh...this particular quote is from one of my favorite plays by Shakespeare. Although it is referencing a shoe repair tool, which can be handy, this post is actually going to be mentioning the shoe. As the title suggests, I want to give you 3 ways to add swag to any and every outfit. So, let's take a look at the first way.
1. SHOES- Now, I'm sure you've all heard this millions of times before, but it is sooooo true. I cannot tell you how many times I've seen an outfit be let down by a "not so well planned out" shoe choice. Shoes can make or break an outfit. You can have on a plain outfit, nothing spectacular going on, throw on some really fab shoes, and boom....you have just elevated your look. Let me also point out, that you needn't spend a ton of money either. There are stylish shoes at every price point, just beware that if quality is something you are concerned with, then it is wise to invest in a nice pair that will last a while. Also, if your feet are not in the best shape, you can invest in quality orthopedic shoes that aren't black with those horrendously weird thick soles. Don't act like you don't know what I mean....I'm trying to be nice here…;-) Also, the sneaker trend is still very hot, and you can throw on a pair with a very luxe outfit and be fab!
2. PURSE- The second way to elevate your look is having an eye-catching bag. The bag I have in this post is something I've been carrying all summer…(which you've probably noticed already) I LOVE IT. (Check my previous post for a link that has a similar bag.) This inexpensive bag can elevate a very plain look in nano seconds. Like the shoes, you can also invest in a quality, expensive bag that will last you for years. In fact, if you invest in high quality shoes and bags, you can pair them with mid-level quality outfits and the entire outfit will look stunning, having been elevated by what's on your feet and what's in your hand.
3. CONFIDENCE- This third way isn't anything to wear per se. It's intangible. However, it can undoubtedly be seen whenever you appear on the scene. When you have the confidence to live your life without any limitations, when you can metaphorically walk in your own shoes on your own path through this life, then you're already livin' your best life. Here's a short story: In my mid-twenties, I was an English teacher at the same high school where my mother worked. Just like now, I was very much into fashion. The dress code for teachers is very lenient at a high school. You can pretty much wear what you want...within reason of course. Well, it was a Friday, and I had worn jeans and a really cute green velvet shirt (this was the mid-nineties), and some fabulous shoes I had gotten from Steve Madden. I loved those shoes! (Do they still have Steve Madden stores in the malls in the US?) To make a long story short, when my mom saw me at work (I already had my own place at that time) she made a HIGHLY insulting comment about the way I was dressed. I guess she felt it wasn't professional enough. She had an idea of what SHE wanted me to look like. And, that's my main point. Someone else's opinion or perception of you has ZERO to do with you. I don't care if it's a friend or family member. There's an expression that says something like "Walk a mile in my shoes, before you judge me". How about just "walking in your own shoes" and not giving a hoot about who's judging you or not.
